The Friesian horse breed is the biggest pride of horse breeding in Holland, famous for its centuries-old history. The Friesian breed was first recorded in the 13th century. But even after so much time, the modern representatives of this breed have retained many of the characteristics of their ancestors.

Distinctive features of these “black pearls” are their beautiful appearance, thick hair of the mane, tail and attendants, black color and sweeping powerful gaits. The proportional structure of the noble head, located on a slightly curved neck is a perfect embodiment of the elegant appearance of this breed and its proud posture.

The friendly character of the frieze is the key to a brilliant horse that can be used for various purposes. Excellent balance, desire to work and learn make the modern frieze an extremely attractive horse for dressage. In the past, these horses were used as military, carriage and draft horses on farms.

To this day these beauties are harnessed to a traditional Frisian gig , holiday carts and carriages. Friezes also perform well in competitions with other breeds in combined competitions in carriage driving (driving), dressage and other disciplines, conquering the audience not only with their appearance, but also with good productive movements.

Modern friezes are large horses (158 - 165 cm and above), having a powerful build, very bony, but elegant, somewhat high-legged, with a pronounced harness type. The neck of the frieze with a beautiful slight bend, set very high, and the head is large, long, with an almost straight profile and long, strict ears.

The most notable feature of the Friesian horse is very long and thick brushes covering the bony powerful legs from the hock to the carpal joint and falling on large black hooves (the so-called frissiness). In addition, an indispensable attribute of the frieze is a lush and very long mane and tail, as well as a black, without a marking, suit, which has become a kind of visiting card of the breed. The desire to work, good memory and curiosity help the friezes to seize everything on the fly and achieve high results in these disciplines.

It registers Frisian horses since 1879, the organization Koninklijke Vereniging "Het Friesch Paarden- Stamboek (KFPS). To date, more than 40,000 horses have been registered, 13,000 participants are members of the KFPS. The legs of a Friesian horse are so expressively shaggy, that now all other horses have excessive vegetation on their legs called friezes. The suit of the Frisian breed is black (that is, it is characterized by black color of wool). Friezes are famous for their fabulously long, enchanting mane and tail. Sometimes it seems that this horse came down from an illustration of a children's fairy-tale book about old castles, knights, dragons and princesses.

Friesian horse also has expressive harmony and grace in movements.
Frieze at any age is tall, slim and strikingly effective. Because sometimes even the young frieze stallion looks at the average person from top to bottom. However, these proud black giants are good-natured, and do not bother the rider with excessive ardor, therefore they are very comfortable in riding.
